AWHT Colour Creations Blog Hop | Week 12 – Coastal Cabana

Welcome to the Art With Heart Team, Colour Creations Blog Hop, for 2021-2022. Each week members of the team will showcase a current colour (in alphabetical order) from the extensive Stampin’ Up! range.

Week 12: Coastal Cabana

You will find a number of products in the 2021-2022 Annual Catalogue that feature Coastal Cabana including – Classic Stampin’ Pad, cardstock, ink refill, Soft Pastel Assortment, Brights Designer Series Paper pack, Brights Stampin’ Write Markers, Watercolour Pencils Assortment 2 and the Playing With Patterns Resin Dots.

But my favourite products to feature the colour Coastal Cabana are……

Anyone who has ever read my blog knows that these are my favourite and my go to embellishment. They just work with everything. I have lost count of the number of packets of these little beauties I have purchased.

These are another staple in my card making kit. The iridescent quality means that they too work with lots and lots of the colours in the Stampin’ Up! range. And, with that adhesive backing……no sticky fingers……BIG bonus!!!

My card:

I am going to be honest and tell you that this was a STRUGGLE. I do love Coastal Cabana as a colour but find it very difficult to work with. Like Bermuda Bay it screams beach and the tropics to me, so that is where I started.

Using blending brushes and masks cut from the Basic Borders set of dies I created a background. Didn’t like it! Actually threw it in the bin. Fished it out and persevered.

By using the Layering Diorama dies I was able to create little areas in which to tuck the shells, flowers and palm trees.

I piled up the stamped and diecut shells and added a few Mango Melody flowers and sequins. In the end I am happyish with the card but I amso  looking forward to creating a card with the lovely neutral Crumb Cake for next week’s blog. 🙂

My current favourite Sale-A-Bration product is……

I love that this paper is so bright and colourful – a ‘trendy’ playful take on Christmas. But, what I love most about this designer series paper is that the snowy theme is only apparent on one side of the paper, meaning that the B-Sides are perfect for those of us who live in the Southern Hemisphere. it could actually be used for baby cards and birthdays as well as Christmas.

A lovely, bright and happy card Michele. Love the “beachy” vibe.

  2. Ros Davidson

Your tropical scene looks fabulous. I love how you have used the diorama dies and tucked your stamped images and die cuts in.

  3. Tina Gillespie

Your background looks fabulous! Definitely worth fishing out of the bin! All of the layers are wonderful, and certainly add real depth to the gorgeous scene.

  4. Theresa Gerrard

Oh if only we could venture to where your card is. Somewhere tropical. Good on you for persevering. It paid off.

  5. Kate Morgan

Oh Michele, you make me laugh – I think we all have days where things just don’t go as planned, but well done you for fetching it out of the bin and perservering with it. You have actually created an amazing scene with so much detail to look at, and one I think we are all dreaming of… a beach holiday!

  6. Andrea Sargent

A lovely tropical card Michele. I love your layers with the shells, palm trees and flowers tucked in between. So glad you persevered with your background. It looks great through the diorama layers. Love it. Xxx

  7. Rachel Palmieri

Love your beachy card Michele, and funnily enough I was having a play with Timeless Tropical today too (but not for this blog hop). The colour contrast with the 2 blues and the mango flowers is delightful, very tropical.

  8. Catherine Proctor

I’m so glad you fished this out of the bin, Michele! I too find this colour hard to create with and your tropical layered scene is just perfect.

  9. CHRISTINE BLAIN

I really like how you’ve used the Diorama Dies, Michele … your card has come together beautifully! I laughed about you throwing the background piece in the bin, then retrieving it. Well salvaged! I love the look of the Mango Melody flowers against the Coastal Cabana card; perfect for your tropical look.
