Heart of Christmas | Candy Canes

Welcome to the 2021 edition of Heart of Christmas brought to you by the Art With Heart Stampin’ Up! Team. This year, we will be showcasing all the fabulous seasonal supplies that Stampin’ Up! have on offer, on a weekly basis and in the form of a Blog Hop.

my card:

My mission over the past couple of weeks has been to create cards that look good but are simple to recreate in larger numbers. Christmas is a time when we need a larger number of cards at the ready. I also sell my cards at a craft market (when Covid allows) and so I do need to cater for a range of people’s preferences in regards to style. Some people like very elaborate cards for special people in their lives or people who may live far away. Others like simple designs and lots of them for letterbox drops to neighbours or to give to people with whom they work. Others still, want gift card holders or special cards for their favourite little people.

Today’s card uses the fabulous Candy Canes background stamp. It is a simple design, one I use often, but the result is still a great little card.

The lovely diagonal striped designer series paper is from Gingerbread & Peppermint.

After stamping out the Candy Canes in Real Red on Basic White, I diecut it out using one of the scalloped dies from the Scalloped Contours set. I then used a blending brush and Real Red to shade around the edges. The edges of the DSP were also inked using Old Olive and a sponge dauber and the greeting is from the Christmas to Remember stamp set. A stamped and diecut sprig of holly and berries is the final touch.

How fabulous is this set of greetings? Not only is the font terrific, the greeting themselves are so usable and just plain lovely! Exactly the sort of thing that I want to say when I send a Christmas card to a friend or family member.

This set comes in a bundle with the gorgeous Christmas Pinecones dies, but as a stand alone set it is a must have. It also works back perfectly with the label dies in the Christmas Season bundle.

Great design, Michele. I love that Real Red blending around the scalloped edge of the candy canes, it almost looks pink – my favourite colour for a non traditional Christmas colour.

  2. Tina Gillespie

I absolutely love how you’ve sponged around the edge of the card cane panel. It looks amazing!! A really wonderful card.

  3. Ros Davidson

Such a lovely card Michele. Nice idea to use the blending brushes to add some softness. Real Red can be quite bold otherwise
