Heart of Christmas | An unexpected colour palette

Welcome to the 2022 edition of Heart of Christmas brought to you by the Art With Heart Stampin’ Up! Team. This year, we will again be showcasing all the fabulous seasonal supplies that Stampin’ Up! have on offer, on a weekly basis and in the form of a Blog Hop.

my cards:

Normally I am a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas cards and the colours I use to create them. However, 2022 is the year that sees me using some very unexpected colour palettes and……I am loving it. My cards today feature Polished Pink, Real Red, Sweet Sorbet and black.

I suppose the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. I sell my cards at a monthly craft market in Point Lonsdale and in November and December last year I sold over 150 cards. While I am very much enjoying creating cards using these bright non traditional colours, perhaps they won’t appeal to my customers. I’ll let you know. Fingers crossed!!!

Card no.1:

For this card I created a simple wreath design using the three pink/red colours and a piece of DSP from Sweetest Christmas. I love a diagonal stripe at Christmas as they work so well as layering pieces.

The A-side of this paper is Real Red and the B-side Sweet Sorbet, so by showcasing both sides, I was able to highlight the colours used when stamping the wreath. I also used a matt of Polished Pink and lots of dimensionals to give the focal panel some……dimension and texture.

The greeting is from Trimming the Tree and of course there just had to be some adhesive-backed seasonal sequins.

Both the inside of my card and envelope feature the candy canes stamped in the three different pink/red tones.

card no.2:

I love my Stamparatus!!!

It, my Stampin’ Cut and Emboss and my trimmer are the MOST used things in my craft studio by a country mile. I can’t remember the last time I created a card without using my Stamparatus for at least some of the stamping.

This paper literally said, “Stamp in my lines,” to me and the Jingle Jingle Jingle stamp set was perfect for the job.

You may not be able to see it in this photo but I used my Real Red Stampin’ Blends to add some colour to the outlined Jollys. In real life it shows up much better and really adds some depth and definition to the card.

I carried the theme through to the inside by using one of the trees from the Trees for Sale stamp set and black ink to mimic the trees in the strip of DSP I used on the front of the card.

Art With Heart Team | Heart of Christmas blog hop:

It’s now time to hop on over to our next participant, the lovely and talented Caroline Manwaring. I can’t wait to see what she’s made this week!

If at any time you find a broken link, please head to the blog of Sharon Davern who is the host of the Heart of Christmas Blog Hop. There you will find the list of all who are participating this week.

Enjoy the rest of the hop and thanks for stopping by this week. I hope to see you back here next Monday, when the team will have more of their inspiration and wonderful creations to share with you.

In the meantime if you would like a copy of either the 2022-2023 Annual Catalogue and/or the July – December 2022 Mini Catalogue, please contact me and I will pop one in the post for you.

I am loving your cards Michele, love the wreathe card! You really have a great skill with the Stamparatus! I need to take some lessons I think! Both cards are great and I am loving the colours too!

  2. Kathryn Ruddick

Great cards Michele! A really fun colour combination. I actually had a flashback of Princess Diana wearing a suit that was wide red & pink horizontal stripes and all the pundits gasping in horror – and I thought it was fabulous, and SO confident. It’s a great Christmas combo!

  3. Kate Morgan

When the DSP has non-traditional colours, I say you’ve got to step outside your comfort zone and go with the flow. Michele, these two cards are just that, fantastic use of papers and then coordinating the stamping of the candy canes. They look great in the multi tones. The Jingle Jingle Jingle card is wonderful too, making the most of those large blocks of stripes.

  4. Rosa Leyden

Oh I just love those pink and red candy canes! And combined in a wreath design they are gorgeous. The stamped black sentiments and images are very striking too combined with the pinks/reds.

  5. Caroline Manwaring

Simply stunning and so striking Michele! Wow, what a gorgeous colour palette! Stamping inside those wide stripes…..simply genius. The combination of pink/red with black & white – breathtaking! (I hope there isn’t a limit on exclamation marks! lol)

  6. Andrea Sargent

Two great cards Michele. I love your colour palette and hope your customers do too. The Stamparatus is a wonderful tool and you use it with skill and beauty. As always your stamping in the round with the cute little candy canes is gorgeous and stamping Jolly in the wide stripes is inspired. Xxx

  7. Catherine Proctor

I love this colour combo, Michele, but I’m not a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas cards. I’m sure these gorgeous cards will sell their socks off at your market!

  8. CHRISTINE BLAIN

Gorgeous, Michele. I’m loving your pink and red creations … and will be very interested to learn if your market customers do, too! I really like how you used the wide stripes of the paper, on your second card, for stamping the sentiment. I can see the red “in fill” (in the stamped Jollys”, but I’m sure it looks even more beautiful in real life.
