Heart of Christmas | Diorama Card

Welcome to the 2021 edition of Heart of Christmas brought to you by the Art With Heart Stampin’ Up! Team. This year, we will be showcasing all the fabulous seasonal supplies that Stampin’ Up! have on offer, on a weekly basis and in the form of a Blog Hop.

I really enjoyed making my Diorama card for this week’s blog hop. I remember making dioramas as a child and I also used them as a presentation tool when I was a classroom teacher. For one such presentation I can remember a corner of the classroom piled high with shoeboxes, empty cereal boxes, etc as the students spent ages designing, making and refining their presentations. They had so much fun they weren’t actually aware of all the learning that was taking place. I can’t remember any of the exact design briefs or topics but dioramas were certainly a useful classroom tool that generated much interest.

supplies used:

I have had this idea (and a couple more) in the back of my head for sometime, but I needed to purchase the Welcoming Window bundle. I think I may have mentioned in a blog post last week that I had ordered the bundle because I ‘needed’ one certain die in the set. I know!!! But, be honest……who hasn’t done this!!!

I also used the gorgeous Whimsy & Wonder designer series paper and the coordinating Whimsical Trees bundle.

my card:

My card represents a scene from Christmas Eve when the parcels are wrapped and under the tree. You know that time when you are both happy to be finally finished your shopping and wrapping, and seriously concerned that you have forgotten something for someone.

The presents were cut from a piece of the DSP old school, using a steel ruler and craft knife. I had run out of Polished Pink jewels so I created my own by colouring clear rhinestones with my dark Polished Pink Stampin’ Blend. The tag was diecut using a die from the Hydrangea set and the little sprig of holly is from the Stockings set of dies.

A larger greeting is stamped on the back panel.  It is on this panel that I will be able to write my message. The card folds to fit inside a standard sized envelope so no additional postage would be needed when mailing.

The mechanism is very easy to make and once you know how, you can use it to create an endless number of lovely scenes. I am thinking of doing another one from the opposite direction – looking into the home with a garden scene in the front. Might just get to use the rest of the bundle when creating that one. 🙂

I did actually create a diorama card in a video tutorial for the ladies who attend my classes. If you are at all interested there is a link to my YouTube channel in the sidebar. I have only just dipped a very cautious toe into the world of YouTube videos, in response to frequent requests from class attendees stuck at home during lockdown. Still very much on my L plates!!!

Enjoy the rest of the hop and thanks for stopping by this week. I hope to see you back here next Monday, when the team will have more of their inspiration and wonderful creations to share with you.
