Welcome to the Art With Heart Team’s Colour Creations Blog Hop for 2022-2023. Each week members of the team will showcase a colour from the extensive Stampin’ Up! range. We began the Stampin’ Up! year with the fabulous NEW 2022-2024 In Colors and are now showcasing the other colours in alphabetical order.
Week 44: Sahara Sand
Sahara Sand is my most used colour in the entire Stampin’ Up! range……by far!!! It is my go-to neutral as its cooler tone works well with any colour. I go through 5 or 6 packs of Sahara Sand cardstock in a year, as I frequently use it for my card bases. Linen thread (Sahara Sand in colour) is another item I purchase regularly as it is easy to tie and coordinates so well with a Sahara Sand card base.
My card:
One of my favourite suite of products from the 2023 Jan – Apr Mini Catalogue is Regency Park and I recently used some of the products from the suite in my February card classes.
This is one of the card that we made……
And why am I showing you this card when it doesn’t even include Sahara Sand……well, it uses a single piece of the 6 x 6in DSP with a half inch strip cut from the bottom. So what was I to do with all those gorgeous half inch strips?
I call this technique ‘quilting.’ After adhering all the strips to a piece of Basic White I then usually emboss it, however, for this card I used the Stitched Greenery die cutting plate to add the interest and texture. The completed panel was matted with Shaded Spruce before being adhered to a Sahara Sand card base. The neutral card base works perfectly with the range of colours found in this pretty paper.
A Mother’s Day greeting and a dimensional flower created with the Petal Park punch bundle were all that was needed to complete the card. I did add a Milky Dot to the centre of the flower as a finishing touch. I have been using these lovely glossy dots on all my cards. They are the perfect size and the colours seem to match with everything.

Such a great couple of cards Michele. I love your idea for using all the left over strips of DSP, especially when all the colours work so well together – as they come from the same DSP pack. The “stitching” over the DSP strips does make it look like a quilted panel. This is a brilliant way to showcase Sahara Sand. So lovely. xxx
Two things that surprise me about this card/post, Michele – that Sahara Sand is your favourite SU! colour, and that you have changed my mind about the Milky Dots, that I’d previously seen as rather insipid! LOL. Utterly gorgeous card, my friend. This is my kind of quilting, and you have achieved a gorgeous result with the paper strips and Stitched Greenery Die.
Your card was a bit of a surprise after I thought you’d got the weeks mixed up! LOL! We’re always looking for ways to use those strips, and that looks like a really good one.
I love your “strippy” card, Michele. As a patchworker from a while ago, I absolutely love the quilted look you’ve achieved by using the Stitched Greenery die. It brings back lots of lovely memories from my sewing days.
Michele I love all the colourful strips against the neutral Sahara Sand. And yes the beautiful stitched panel gives off quilting vibes.
Ooh I love your quilted card, Michele. That Stitched Greenery die is perfect with this selection of floral DSP. Good to see you back in the blog hop too!
I love this gorgeous paper quilt of a card, Michele. This is such a wonderful way to use up DSP strips!
Your cards are wonderful! The strips of DSP are so effective, and I love the look of the stitched die over the top.
