AWHT Creative Showcase for September – Masculine Cards

Welcome to the Art With Heart Team Creative Showcase for the month of September. This month the team is featuring projects with a masculine theme, which as it turns out, is the perfect theme for me for September as my husband and youngest son share a birthday towards the end of the month.

This year everyone in my family is getting a homemade card. In previous years, the older members certainly always received one of ‘my cards’ but, for the younger generation I would pick up something a little more ‘contemporary’ from a gift store. That was until my oldest son asked (late last year), “Why don’t we ever get a special handmade card?” Who knew!!!  So this year they are not only getting handmade cards, but one’s with a personal touch, such as favourite colours, topic or theme of interest, etc.

My ‘husband’ card:

My husband loves the mountains. We spend quite a bit of time in Victoria’s High Country (pre Covid-19 of course). He loves to fly fish and walk. In January, after months of training he was to do a hike to the top of Mount Bogong, however that trip was unfortunately cancelled due to the devastating bushfires in the area. We have had to cancel several subsequent trips but rest assured it will be one of the first places we visit once restrictions are eased. So consequently, the Mountain Air bundle was the perfect bundle to use when creating his birthday card.

My card was also inspired by artwork we saw when we visited Yulara, Uluru and Kata Tjuta in 2018. In several of the galleries, we marvelled at the miniature landscapes painted in great detail, on larger leaves and smooth stones. Using the stamp set I stamped out a mountain scene before using the Stitched Leaves dies to cut out the two larger leaves. I used pieces of Plaid Tidings DSP for my matts. My colour palette was taken from the designer series papers.

I made this second card with the left over leaf diecut. I might just put this away until next year. 🙂

my ‘son’ card:

Unfortunately my Stampin’ Up! order containing the stamp set with which I was going to create my son’s card is yet to arrive. Not to worry as I still have a few weeks before the big day. Hopefully it arrives soon, otherwise, I will need to employ plan B and currently there is no plan B. 🙂

A little extra:

This is another ‘masculine’ card that I created last week. I originally created it to demonstrate just how versatile the Coming Home bundle is. I was channelling my inner Judy May and Tina Gillespie when I created the matching ‘inside’ of my card.

Thanks for visiting but, there is so much more to see in this month’s AWH Team Creative Showcase. Please hop back to Rachel’s blog where you will find links to all the other team members and their gorgeous creations.

If you would like to purchase any of the products that I used when creating these cards, the links are included below. If you would like a copy of the 2020-2021 Annual Catalogue and/or the August-December 2020 Mini Catalogue, please contact me and I will pop one in the post for you.

Thanks Michele.

  3. Sue Madex

I just LOVE the mountain scene on that leaf – what a great idea. Bit tempted to get those leaves now – love these cards.

Ok my friend I love your leaf cards for your hubby. They are really cool. I love how versatile this bundle is. I really love who you have stamped and then cut out the scene on the leaf that is really effective! The card for your son is really cool too and who doesn’t like a card car when you are turning 18, great inner channelling of Judy and Tina. (My daughter’s 19th is this Sunday, Yay for September birthday’s) Love your cards and inspiration.

  5. Tina Gillespie

Woo Hoo! Another convert to ‘doing’ the insides of cards! They are all amazing cards. I love the little scene on the leaves – such a great idea. The car wreath is adorable!

  6. Kate Morgan

Oh Michele, I adore that stamped scene on the die cut leaf, stunning. Your 18th birthday card is rather cute too!

  7. Rachel

Wow! You’ve been busy Michele. I love all your cards, the plaid and the leaves, but I think the cars are my favourite. I hope your order arrives soon

  8. Catherine Proctor

Just wow, Michele. Your first card is truely a work of art and I adore the little cards on your second card – who knew you would make a wreath card from cars, but boy does it work!
