Heart of Christmas | Quilting Technique

Welcome to the 2022 edition of Heart of Christmas brought to you by the Art With Heart Stampin’ Up! Team. This year, we will again be showcasing all the fabulous seasonal supplies that Stampin’ Up! have on offer, on a weekly basis and in the form of a Blog Hop.

my cards:

What is your favourite Christmas designer series paper of this season? I oscillate between a couple depending on my mood, but I do keep coming back to the Boughs of Holly and its traditional Christmas colour palette. I have really been enjoying using non traditional colours this festive season, however, nothing really says Christmas like Real Red, Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive and Shaded Spruce.

Both of my cards showcase a technique I call quilting because, it reminds of the beautiful quilts my talented friend Jo makes and the gorgeous quilts we saw as we travelled through Amish country, on our trip to the USA a number of years ago.

I also love this technique as it is the perfect way to use up all your scraps of DSP.

Card no.1:

When creating my first card I applied my strips in a ribbon pattern, before embossing the panel with the pine needles from the Wintry 3D set of embossing folders.

The sentiment is from the Christmas Banners bundle, as is the sprig of pine needles.

card no.2:

My second card uses 1 1/2 inch squares of DSP. After adhering them in a 3 x 3 grid to a scrap piece of paper I cut it through the middle, in both directions……creating four pieces. I then rotated these pieces until I was happy with the design and adhered them to a matt of Real Red. This whole panel was then embossed with the Timeworn Type folder.

This sentiment is also from the Christmas Banner bundle.

Behind the greeting I added a bow of silver trim and to the front a couple of red rhinestones.

The Boughs of Holly DSP is perfect for this techniques as it includes papers of not only complementary colours, but patterns of varying scale.

Art With Heart Team | Heart of Christmas blog hop:

It’s now time to hop on over to our next participant, the lovely and talented Kate Morgan. I can’t wait to see what she’s made this week!

If at any time you find a broken link, please head to the blog of Sharon Davern who is the host of the Heart of Christmas Blog Hop. There you will find the list of all who are participating this week.

Enjoy the rest of the hop and thanks for stopping by this week. I hope to see you back here next Monday, when the team will have more of their inspiration and wonderful creations to share with you.

In the meantime if you would like a copy of either the 2022-2023 Annual Catalogue and/or the July – December 2022 Mini Catalogue, please contact me and I will pop one in the post for you.

Michele.

Fantastic ‘quilt’ cards, Michele. That first one was on my list to try later this week, so it’s great to see yours so beautifully made and with the embossing looks even better! The second card looks great with different sized pieces; a great way to use those leftover DSP pieces.

  2. Tina Gillespie

Oh, wow! The ribbon effect on your first card is amazing!! I love it so much. I’m a novice patchworker, but I think the technique on your second card is a disappearing four patch? Whatever it’s called, it is fantastic!

  3. Caroline Manwaring

Wow, if only my patchwork points looked as precise as your paper pieced ones Michele….. (wink)
Just lovely. The embossing looks brilliant and both cards would be perfect to give to anyone who loves patchwork and quilting. They are little masterpieces.

  4. Andrea Sargent

Two delightful quilted Christmas cards Michele. I do love the Leaves of Holly DSP and the way you have used it is gorgeous. I love the ribbon design and I find your second card fascinating with the way you cut your laid out pieces into quarters and turned them around. Xxx

  5. Kathryn Ruddick

Wow Michele! Both of your cards are truly inspired! I love the pine needle embossing with the ribbon quilt – that is just fabulous!
And yes, I really love this DSP – haven’t even cut into my pack yet! LOL

  6. Sharon Davern

What a great technique for both of your cards Michele, I love them both. The quilting effect when you emboss the DSP is really lovely! Gorgeous Cards both of them!

  7. CHRISTINE BLAIN

Wow, what fabulous techniques, Michele! I especially love the look of the ribbon pattern, embossed, on your first card – really striking. I’m a big fan of using squares of DSP to create a faux quilted look, but haven’t seen it “mixed up” with some cut panels rearranged, as on your second card. So clever, and very impressive. 🙂

  8. Catherine Proctor

Such a fantastic technique for using up paper scraps – love your quilted cards, Michele.
