Taking a Break from Christmas Cards

Today I put the Chrissy stamps, dies and DSP away so that I could use a bundle I bought a while ago but had not had the time to use. The Sailing Home bundle includes the Sailing Home stamp set and the Smooth Sailing dies. I also have the Come Sale Away DSP, Baker’s Twine and Sail Away Trinkets. So with all this goodness spread out about my table I got to work.

To begin with I stamped and diecut lots of different elements in a range of colours. I also diecut the seaweed in a range of colours as well as some vellum. My DSP had already been cut up into my most used sizes. Next, I cut up a number of standard sized card bases using colours featured in the DSP. Once I had assembled all my bits and pieces I simply started with some trial and error. I really didn’t have any plan or designs in mind. If it looked good, I went with it. If it didn’t, I tried something else. After an afternoon of mixing and matching I came up with six cards and I am really happy with them all although I do have a favourite (see card featured above). Which one do you like best? Leave me a comment below to let me know.

There are just so many things to like about this suite. The colours are lovely and work so well together, there are lots of terrific images and elements that make putting together a card just so easy and the DSP is so versatile that I have already used it on Christmas and Baby cards. Add to that the twine and trinkets and it really is a suite that I would recommend.

Note: Several of the sentiments also came from the Sailing Home stamp set but others I used are from a range of current and retired stamp sets. When I want a different greeting I simply browse through my stamps with the die I intend to use. I hold the die over the sentiment and if it fits I put it aside. It is great to shop your stash every now and then. You never know what you might find. 🙂
